What's Happening To Companies Who Make The Phones That Are Causing Cancer?
Similar to tobacco companies in their efforts to hide the danger of lung cancer’s link to cigarette usage, cell phone companies have a vested interest in stopping the research pointing to their product and its role in certain cancers such as Gliomas.
There is good news. The recent statement by the World Health Organization (WHO) admitting that cell phones are possibly carcinogenic to humans, and a court ruling that states there is sufficient scientific viability to the issue, we are well on our way to holding the cell phone companies accountable.
Are Cellphone Companies The One To Blame?
CNN.com published an article in 2011 on the subject including this quote: “When you look at cancer development — particularly brain cancer — it takes a long time to develop. I think it is a good idea to give the public some sort of warning that long-term exposure to radiation from your cell phone could possibly cause cancer,” said Dr. Henry Lai, research professor in bioengineering at University of Washington who has studied radiation for more than 30 years.
This long time frame that the cancer takes to develop has also been a problem in holding the cell companies responsible for their role because cell phones have only been around for 25 years and it can take 10 years for cancer to develop. Once the cancer develops it can be difficult to prove causation but there have been extensive studies monitoring the link for years.
